Colorful Birthday

Many of us crafters have a stash of things that somehow we forget about or never find the perfect project for. We have piles of stamps that we forget to use. At least I hope I’m not the only one! This Happy Birthday frame has been in my stash for many years and I never quite got around to using it. I think it looks great with Tim Holtz’s new mini color wheel stencil and it was so easy to put together. I hope you like it!

  • Tim Holtz mini stencil set 59 mst059 (I used the layering stencil wheel THS179)
  • Rubbernecker stamps (now I believe, Brass & Bliss) Happy Birthday frame 1044-04
  • Gina K. Fancy Phrases stamps set (the “and many more”)
  • Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Oxides in Candied Apple, Rusty Hinge, Mustard Seed, Rustic Wilderness, Salty Ocean and Villainous Potion
  • Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black
  • Rainbow Drops from Fun Stampers Journey (now part of Spellbinders)

I started by stamping the Happy Birthday frame in Jet black archival ink onto a piece of 5 1/4″ x 4″ white cardstock. I then positioned the stencil so the curve faced right and the straight edge matched the card layer edge. Working one color at a time, I inked the color wheel in rainbow order. I used post it notes to mask each section. I started in the centers and tried to fade the color out as I got to the outer edge.

I then stamped “and many more” on a small piece of white card stock (1/2″ x 2″) and matted it on black card stock (3/4″ x 2 1/4″). This piece was then popped up in the lower right corner of the card front with foam tape. The entire card front was matted with a black piece of card stock (5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″) and attached to a white card base. I finished with a rainbow set of colored drops scattered on the front of the card. Easy peasy!

Have a fabulous week! -Lisa
