Peace in Purple

I’m loving the new Snowflake impresslit and it seems to go perfectly with the Arched embossing folder. Originally I was going to do it in gold, but had a quick change of heart when I found both of my gold mousses dried up. Lesson: Use your stuff! =)

Materials used:

  • Tim Holtz/Sizzix 3D Impresslit- Snowflake (665376)
  • Tim Holtz/Sizzix 3D Embossing Folder – Arched (665459)
  • Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous – Christmastime 2 (CMS389)
  • Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Oxides – Seedless Preserves, Broken China, Villianous Potion
  • Nuvo Embellishment Mousse – Powder Blue 820n
  • Graphic 45 – Staples Embellishments Collection – Matte Pearl Gems
  • Rubbernecker stamp company die- Nested Rectangle X stitch – 5144-03D
  • FSJ Deep Lilac card stock
  • silver card stock

Steps:

  1. Make a 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ base with the deep lilac card stock. Set aside. Cut a 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ mat from the silver card stock. From the center of this mat cut the 2 1/2″ x 3 3/4″ cross stitch rectangle from the nested set. From another piece of silver card stock cut the snowflake impresslit. If your paper is like mine, with a silver side and a kraft side, I found lightly spraying just the kraft side with water seemed to work best before running it through your machine.
  2. Run a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of white card stock through your machine with the Arched embossing folder. In this case, I lightly sprayed both sides of the white card stock with water before running it through.
  3. Using blending brushes color the embossed piece with the oxides. I had no rhyme or reason as to how I placed the colors, just kind of blended them all around.

4. Using a flat foam pad on a blending tool, rub the nuvo mousse lightly over the embossed piece, catching the raised portions of the piece. Set aside to dry a bit.

5. Stamp “peace” on a 3 3/8″ x 2 1/4″ piece of white card stock with clear embossing ink and emboss with silver embossing powder. Heat set. Note: I wanted just the word from this stamp so I masked off the star that is on the side of the word before stamping.

6. Assemble the card. Attach the silver mat to the card base, then the embossed piece. Attach the sentiment piece to the smaller x-stitched silver mat then attach this to the embossed piece with foam tape. Attach the two snowflakes. You will have to use foam on part of the snowflake and adhesive on part since they overlap the sentiment piece. Add 3 silver embellishment dots.

Though it is a fairly simple card, I feel like it has big impact. I do love unusual colors for Christmas cards. Hope you make some! Have a wonderful week! –Lisa
