A Cow and a Beaver

I participate in two card swap groups and this week they overlapped. The theme for one of the groups was animals, which I carried over to the other swap group that was open themed. I chose simple layered cards as these swaps are being done by mail due to the pandemic, and I didn’t want to make anything that I had to write complicated instructions for. Because they are simple layered cards, I don’t have step-by-step instructions this week, but I did want to post a list of materials and a couple of tips/tricks I used on them.

The Cow

Materials Used:

Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Funny Farm stamp set (CMS361)

Rubbernecker Nested Rectangle X-Stitch die (5144-03D)

Fun Stampers Journey Fun Day Elements (AC-0101)

FSJ Black Licorice twine (AC-0004)

Copic Markers – R20, R43, N0, G40 Colorless Blender

FSJ Buttercream card stock

SU retired patterned paper

Tip:

When doing multiple kits that contain a stamped die cut piece, here is a trick for getting the perfect placement each time. Stamp your image using a stamping platform, then die cut the image with the placement you like. Save the negative of this cut and use it as a guide in your stamping platform. Die cut all the pieces you need without stamping them first, then place them, one at a time, in the negative you’ve placed in your platform. Perfect placement every time. You can use this technique for any shaped die as well.

The Beaver

Materials Used:

Stamping Bella Oddball Beaver Stamp (eb804)

Tim Holtz Woodgrain Folder (656644)

Distress Embossing Glaze in Speckled Egg

Distress Crayon in Walnut Stain

FSJ Circle Die (DI-0039)

FSJ Natural thread (AC-0133)

Copic Markers – E11, E13, E15, E18, E37, E74, E79, N0, N4, N6, N8, B00, G94, G40 colorless blender

La La Lands postage stamps die (8145)

FSJ card stocks in Whisper White and Oatmeal Cookie

Tip:

To get the grungy wood panel, I took a piece of tan card stock (in this case FSJ Oatmeal Cookie) and embossed it using the woodgrain folder. After cutting out the circle, I rubbed the entire panel with clear embossing ink. Then I covered the entire panel with Speckled Egg embossing glaze and heat embossed the panel. Finally, I scribbled over the panel in sections with the walnut stain crayon and rubbed it in using a damp finger. I love the look the combination of glaze and crayon makes the wood look. Here are a couple of photos of the before and after.

Hope you enjoy these two “critter cards”. To my fellow Californians dealing with fires and horrible smoke and ash- filled air, stay safe! Hoping they get the fires under control soon. Have a good week everyone! -Lisa
